I began playing when my friends introduced me and it has been an incredible experience. This game is one of the, and if not the best moba out because it is not only free to play, but Riot, the managing company hosts many tournaments and allows any type of player to become BIG.
I am a 70LP D1 player and have played for 2 years.

Love the game, hate the community.

I find that with League of Legends, Riot has cultivated one of the most unique spaces in gaming history—mostly for good reasons but also for some awful ones, and in the gaming museum of the future, League is sure to have its own wing.

Frequent update. minimal server downtime. Community is fairly nice.

League is always fun for chilling out at the end of a day, though games can take awhile it's always fun for me. Sometimes it can be rough, but I really enjoy the new content that they constantly are releasing.

League of Legends handles well the worst problem DOTA has: its autistic n00b-hating elite players. Thanks to match making, now we weaklings dare to play. [Nov 2011]

Improvements are constantly being updated and although team mates make or break many matches, there is genuine fun to be found.

The fact remains that if you're looking for a fast, smart and fun fantasy themed team-based strategy game, you can't go wrong here. If you've taken the time to appreciate the popular Warcraft III mod, Defense of the Ancients, well, then, you're more than likely to get a kick out of this. You can always decide to have a go at the game against AI bots, but mark my words, that's not how this game is meant to be played. It encourages team spirit more than anything else, and that goes a long way.

Despite being released probably a bit earlier than optimal, League of Legends is still a very solid game that combines many of the fun elements found in RTS, RPG, and online multiplayer PvP games. While the other players may not always be the most welcoming or friendly lot, if you’re willing to overlook that and enjoy the fierce real-time fights, you might just find League of Legends to be worth your time – just be prepared for some long battles. And, best of all, it’s free!

I can't say what effect the infuriating unlock system might have on LoL's competitive longevity -- the cynic in me says it'll stunt the game's long-term growth, creating an unmanageable gulf between the skilled and the wannabes -- but it's still the best game of its kind I've played. If nothing else, it definitely takes careful measures to ease in new players (meaning the non-Defense of the Ancients elite). If the developers can find it in their Grinch hearts to grow a little less miserly with the in-game duckets, League of Legends might just go down in competitive-gaming history right alongside the Street Fighters and the StarCrafts.
