Strategy role-playing gamers be ready, as this game will truly test your ability to conquer the evils that lurk in the sprawling networks of mines and ruins in the areas surrounding the fortress city of Feste. Seasoned explorers and novices alike venture underground into dangerous caves to collect the coveted material known as Pluton. During your first trip down into the depths of one of these mines, you and your new explorer friends quickly realize that things may be more dire than you had imagined as you encounter a brand-new type of evil lurking below the surface. You and your newfound friends must strategically defeat these new difficult foes and warn the kingdom of their presence before it's too late.

Natural Doctrine’s combat system is ingenious, but it’s obstructed by its complexity, while the remaining aspects of the release just about fulfil their roles to the point of adequacy. Although the game’s intricacies will instantly cut itself out of most of the market, it’s certainly a fantastic strategy title in its own right, which will challenge even the most adept players. This is a must buy for genre fans, then – and a cautionary tale for newcomers.

Natural Doctrine is definitely one of the most hardcore and ruthless tactical RPGs available, but it's also deeply flawed in almost every field to worth the hassle.

After a few hours I got the hang of Natural Doctrine’s systems and felt confident enough to take on each new challenge, but you’ll have to dig through a few layers of rock before you hit Natural Doctrine’s gold. This strategy game will test your battle prowess as well are your tolerance for saccharin Japanese storytelling. Natural Doctrine isn’t noteworthy outside of it’s combat, if you feel like strategy games have grown stale, Kadokawa Games’ curious take on the genre is an interesting change of pace.

Look, I’m not going to put on a purple astronaut helmet or run half-speed into a wall of cake mix or perform any other act of subterfuge that may trick you into forgetting that Natural Doctrine is one of the most unforgiving virtual experiences currently available in this or any possible dimension. It’s like that university professor who wouldn’t accept your term paper three minutes late despite the fact that your dog body slammed your cat from the roof that morning, placing them both in sad but cute comas. It just doesn’t give a damn. Yet, if you have patience, get a kick out of learning through experimentation, and receive a rush when accomplishing what seems satirically impossible, you may appreciate Natural Doctrine’s unyielding difficulty, and certainly gain a feeling of unrivalled empowerment that's associated with overcoming it.

Hardcore strategy RPG fans may find a decent experience here. In fact, it may simply be the case that Natural Doctrine’s blend of punishing difficulty and simple presentation don’t gel with everyone. One thing that is certain is that Natural Doctrine us not designed for the casual crowd, and unless you’re prepared to invest time and energy into learning its systems inside out – and then are still prepared to try and try again when you do know what you’re doing – you’d be advised to away from this one.

The story could use more depth and the framedrops are a bit annoying but easy to forgive. The online multiplayer is a great way to extend gameplay and works very well.

There are moments of brilliance, but it's tough to enjoy them while being kicked in the face at every turn. It's a genuine shame, but I can't recommend Natural Doctrine when so much of it is so terribly wrong.

Dark Souls meets tactics in this unforgiving SRPG. Some basic design flaws hurt and slow down the gameplay of what is otherwise an enjoyable game. Not for the faint-hearted, but for those seeking a real challenge.

NAtURAL DOCtRINE is a really bad game. It’s shocking to see something this bad on a current gen console, and it’s really sad to think that someone released this and asked for money. If NAtURAL DOCtRINE was your date, it would show up late, eat your dinner, pour your soup into your lap, stab you in both eyes with two forks and leave you bleeding into your wallet as you tried to find money to pay the bill. Even though it had already robbed you.

How do you feel about plumbing the depths of a fresh strategy system, with a very specific kind of play required for success? This is a system guaranteed to produce numerous failures as you learn, eventually giving way to the satisfaction a well-executed battle plan can deliver. If that sounds like your jam, you might be able to to rock with Natural Doctrine. It's a rough product in almost every way, but not one wholly without merit.
