America, early 1900's. The era of the cowboy is coming to an end. When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is sent across the American frontier to help bring the rule of law. Experience intense gun battles, dramatic train robberies, bounty hunting and duels during a time of violent change. Red Dead Redemption is an epic battle for survival in a beautiful open world as John Marston struggles to bury his blood-stained past, one man at a time.

I've played Gun and Call of Juarez, but Red Dead Redemption is definitely my favorite of the western style games. You play as John Marston who is a former gang member that has a wife and kid. However, corrupt government agents (under the leadership of Edgar Ross) make their presence known and decide to kidnap Marston's wife and kid and forces him on a vigilante mission where he has to search and kill former comrades of his former gang, including the leader, Dutch and Marston sets off on quite an adventure where he works with sherrifs, a snake oil con artist, country women, and later even gets involved with the Mexican civil war. The game has a grand theft auto style feel to it too as the world is open ended with lots of exploration to do, side quests to embark, animals to hunt (btw, watch out for wolves, bears and cougars as they will attack Marston), minigames to play (my favorite is probably the Texas hold em poker tournaments that you can find in saloons), as well as other features. This game definitely makes you feel like you are in a John Wayne or Clint Eastwood style western movie.

This game was quite interesting but after a while the game does become slow and eventually there is no replay value

Sandbox games are great not for what they allow a player to do, but what limitations are set on their actions. There is no question in RDR that horses are speed and guns are life. How you can use each determines what you can achieve. Voice acting in RDR is some of the best i've ever heard and bring the fearful and downtrodden characters to life. Without trying too hard the world stays fresh, vivid, and realistic. All this being said, it's easy to get sidetracked from the story which can dry out at times. Great game humorous, morbid, and gritty.

The American West has made actors famous and writers rich. It has inspired children on the playground and grizzled country singers alike. Its stories of heroes and bandits, gold rushes and simple homesteaders have been fictionalized and romanticized to the point that they're known the world over. And yet, videogame makers have either ignored the setting or attempted to squeeze it into existing game conventions with limited success. That has all changed now that Rockstar, the group made famous for its Grand Theft Auto series, turned its eye towards the Wild West. No game maker has approached the period with as much passion and power as Red Dead Redemption. This is the new bar that all Westerns must strive to reach.

This is simply a beautiful game, and it's provided more than a few moments where I completely forgot where the hell I was supposed to be going while riding over golden hills at sunset or through the desert in the middle of a nighttime lightning storm. It doesn't quite convey the loneliness of the real empty spaces, but does compress the essence of all the varieties of land and weather native to those parts into a few hundred miles ride.

When Rockstar teased fans in 2005 with a video indicating an upcoming PS3 release, fans took notice – sadly, it took nearly five years for the sequel – Red Dead Redemption – to hit the shelves. But believe me, it was worth the wait.

Red Dead Redemption is much easier to describe than the complex predicament of its principal character. "Grand Theft Auto 4 meets Wild West" – and this is it.

Rockstar does it again. Delivering a great game we mean. Red Dead Redemption has the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto, but situated in the Wild West. Go with John Marston through an exciting adventure in a great environment full of details. Besides some collision detection problems and many glitches/bugs Red Dead Redemption is a great game.

For all its achievements in aesthetics and game structure, perhaps the most significant feature of Red Dead Redemption is the way Rockstar has invested the experience with such a sense of nostalgia and poignancy, by stripping the open-world back to an era in which the telephone is the height of technology, an era which, in all its naivety, doesn’t yet realise how fast the tide of progression and modernity will be.

Red Dead Redemption is a masterpiece. This game is the perfect example of how a developer should work to create the best atmosphere and to represent a beautiful historical situation. The graphics, the gameplay elements and everything else is at top level. Buy Red Dead Redemption, now!
