The superlative, smash hit beat 'em up Super Smash Bros. comes to Wii in the shape of Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Featuring all your favourite Nintendo characters; from Mario and Link to Donkey Kong and Pikachu, Super Smash Bros. Brawl invites you to be part of an epic royal rumble that is always guaranteed to end in chaos! Added to the roster of famous faces this time around are Meta Knight, the sword-wielding nemesis of Kirby; Pit the angelic archer from Kid Icarus; Zero Suit Samus, the Metroid heroine minus her versatile armour; and Wario; who boasts a noxious attack of truly gastronomic proportions! Also sneaking into the line-up are small screen legends Snake from the Metal Gear series and a certain blue hedgehog with an old score to settle! Taking the latest game in the series to a whole new level, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will feature an online mode that lets you duke it out with other players around the globe via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

I thought this game was more difficult to learn than the previous Smash Bros. games, but once I got the hang of the controls, it was way more amazing and addicting to play!

With more than six million copies sold worldwide since its release seven years ago, Super Smash Bros. Melee remains easily -- GameCube's best-selling title. The 3D fighter, a sequel to 1999's surprise hit Nintendo 64 project Super Smash Bros., packed in more characters, more stages and a seemingly endless supply of nostalgic trophies and collectibles to become one of the system's most beloved efforts. There was so much content squeezed into Melee, in fact, that the multiplayer fighter kept devoted fans entertained not just for months, but years. Yet, compared to the Whopper that is Super Smash Bros Brawl, a Wii game dripping with different play modes, characters, stages and online components, Melee has been reduced to a plain old hamburger. (And by the way, we're hungry.)

Even looking at it with a cynical eye, it's incredibly hard to fault Brawl. You're going to adore this game. [July 2008, p.62]

Everything about this game is beautifully orchestrated and flawless in presentation.

Despite its absolutely luminal reception, there is a strong argument that Brawl will appeal to the two polar opposites of the gaming community but fall flat to the majority of 'middle class' gamers in between. The very casual gamer will enjoy the chaos and the pyrotechnics, the hardcore gamer will love the bizarre mojo they can discover to gain their edge, but the middle of the road party player will probably soon tire of the impetus of play without being able to access the deeper mysteries.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl isn't a giant leap forward from "Super Smash Bros. Melee," but it didn't have to be. This is going to be the game that Wii owners will be playing for the life of the system, and they're going to love every minute of it.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl offers incredible value for money - there are masses of characters, levels and game modes to explore, the music is fantastic, the gameplay is superb and the production values are through the roof.

Nintendo has done it again, creating another “must-have” Wii game built on an old franchise.

Matches play like a Destroy All Monsters mêlée, with up to four players duking it out until the last man, or Pokémon, stands.

Everything about his game - just about every little detail there is - fits. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is here to stay – if you’ve waited for a reason to get yourself a Wii, here it is. Easy, fun and rewarding!
